turtle island

an honouring of the land of my birth and the land of my culture.  turtles are sacred to both the north and south indigenous cultures and feel like a beautiful representation of the duality I carry.

the original name for what is now north america is turtle island, and is what indigenous people still refer to it as today.  jamaican taino culture speaks of karei inaru (turtle woman), and deminan.

turtles also represent the goddess or divine feminine, as their shells have 13 spaces which fall in alignment with the 13 moon cycles of both the physical moon and female body.
